What a brilliant discussion! I love the deconstruction of Jim's fan/scholar dichotomy. I was laughing and my synapses were firing simultaneously.

Fantastic! I thought I would just have the interview playing in the background while I was multitasking, but I soon dropped everything to savor every word. I couldn't even make it through the whole thing without opening up my file of critical notes on Dylan and adding this sparkling gem from Nina: “He has taught us how to live in the completely precarious space of what is real and what is not. People say to me, ‘Bob Dylan is such a fraud.’ And I say, ‘Right on!’ He is the most extraordinary fraud. He has brought authenticity to fraudulence in a way that no artist ever has.” Nailed it!

Excerpts from the OED definition of "incompatible": "incapable of being held together"; "mutually intolerant"; "incapable of existing together in the same subject"; "discordant, incongruous, inconsistent." Yep, sounds about right. Thanks Nina and Erin!

Some interesting insights and assertions! Blonde on Blonde and Wesley Harding as incompatible in their very approach! For my recent analysis of the references to Thucydides in the early "literary autobiography" in Chronicles, see here: https://pomocon.substack.com/p/bob-d-on-thucydides
